The Company:

A network of 100 multi-specialty clinic practices located in Northern Colorado, Colorado Springs, Wyoming and outlying areas.  The system owned group includes 600 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is considered one of Colorado’s fastest growing and most comprehensive multi-specialty group.
 

Scope of the Job:

The Chief Operating Officer must support the direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer by forging strong relationships with the health system enterprise, physicians and physician leadership to create an overall entity unparalleled in the United States today.
 
The Chief Operating Officer reports to and supports the Physician President and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Group. The Chief Operating Officer has responsibility and authority to provide leadership, direction, and administration of all aspects of group’s operation and the activities of its related entities to ensure compliance with established goals and objectives and the realization of quality, economical health care services, and other related lines of business, while meeting the directives established by the health system’s mission, vision and values statements.
 
The COO is expected to be knowledgeable about healthcare reform including value-based care, accountable care, population health management and patient-centered care that impact physician practices, reimbursement and relationships/alliances hospitals, surgery centers, insurance companies and regulatory agencies. 
 
A strong financial acumen is required for this role as well as a thorough understanding of general office procedures and general accounting principles.
 

Responsibilities Include:

Lead strategic, growth, and operational objectives on a broad basis across the medical group operations, working with CEO and Board of Directors. Responsible for strategic planning, policy making, and general administration.

 
Increase access to all practices through the improvement of clinic operations and efficient operations.
 
 
Create a common culture that fosters physician and staff collaboration and
through this culture become the physician-led group of choice for the state and region.
  
Increase the integration of services across the group, the academic health system and insurance networks.
 
Expand the group by growing providers, volume and ability to care for the
communities we serve.
 
Create a group practice structure that focuses on the health and wellness of the communities.
 
Provide effective and inspiring leadership while overseeing day-to-day operations of assigned areas in the healthcare system. Utilize expertise and administrative knowledge to facilitate, measure, evaluate, and interpret needs of patients and performance of staff while directing activities accordingly.
 
Demonstrate sound understanding of and experience operating a large multi- specialty physician group including operations, finances, physician relations, and current knowledge of the trends and challenges in ambulatory care.
 
Facilitate, implement, and provide efficient administrative support for existing physician/ provider recruitment as related to outpatient clinics, new practice start-ups, as well as divestiture activities for this market.

Through the engagement of the Medical Group physicians, enhance revenues, control costs, develop new programs, and continuously improve clinical quality customer service, and overall performance.

 
Grow the patient care base, revenues, and market share while providing a model for working with healthcare providers in the city and region to improve the health status of the population and manage the rising costs of health care delivery.
 
Understand physician compensation models and how they are changing to create an
attractive and sustainable compensation model for all specialties and primary care.
 
Assist in maintaining compliance with NCQA accreditation and other regulatory standards.
 
Ensure successful financial performance and productivity of business operations.
 
Coordinate budget development for all assigned areas including immediate and projected needs of human, material, and financial resources. Assume accountability for budget.
 
Supervise and coordinate the review process for all new services and major technology acquisitions.
 
Monitor all physician employment agreements, professional service agreements
for physicians and any contract provisions, updates, and revisions.
 
Monitor patient and insurance revenues and provider productivity on an ongoing basis in coordination with practice management. Review coding and reimbursement performance data and address any compliance issues.
 
Work with the CEO and Board, to strategically plan for and implement population health tactics.

Collaborate with patient care staff, health system administration, medical staff, and support services staff to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of operations.

Work with physicians to adopt and implement best practices and standardization across all clinics.

Candidate Requirements:
 
MBA or MHA other applicable graduate degree
 
A minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience managing large physician practices groups in multi-specialty or primary practice with sub-specialties to include hands-on experience in finance, marketing, legal, recruitment and revenue cycle management.
 
Knowledge regarding value-based ambulatory healthcare.
 
High degree of experience and demonstrated success in conflict management, strategic
